New Year's Goals 2019
Happy New Year, blog family! If you're here today, thanks for ringing it in reading this post. ;)
Yup, just like the title says, I have a few goals for the year just like everyone else. I "swore" I wasn't going to do a list of goals because I always shoot for the stars, and it never quite works out the way I planned. ;) However, some things have occurred in the last month that have changed my outlook, so I went for a walk yesterday to clear my head and put this list together.
-Spiritual Goals-
Pray for God's will in every step I take, big or small.
Pray about being more politically and actively involved in the campaign for life movement in my district.
Keep my focus clearly directed and not sidetracked unless the Lord throws the wrench in my plans and tells me different. :)
Be open to any kind of change in my life; socially, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
-Physical goals-
(Physical goals are the hardest to live up to, but I already started working towards these goals in 2018, so here's to greater success in 2019!)
#1 Run 3 miles each day three days a week
#2 Go to the gym with my brother 3 evenings a week
(Sounds fierce, but I've already started trying to get into this mode of exercise, so wish me luck!!)
-Personal Goals-
(I've never thought that these mattered quite as much as spiritual goals, but sometimes they go hand in hand. These are the things that are most important to me this year and not things that I normally make public.)
#1 Don't obsess over social media! Enjoy the connections it can bring, but life is so much more than a notification. Life is meant to be lived. Not scrolled, posted, or liked.
#2 Read more books. Beneficial books...not "fluffy fiction". Books that provide a timely learning experience.
#3 This last personal goal is something I worked on for a solid year. 2018 was a year of God telling me to WAIT. Did I listen? No, (*Ahem) not always.
As I was unable to find a university with my degree program at the time, I threw myself into other things to make myself feel accomplished work, family, reading,....which is the wrong reason to do anything. Not that I didn't learn anything from doing any of these things or that any of them are essentially wrong, but they weren't done in the right spirit.
"By trying to find fulfillment everywhere, we find it nowhere." -Elizabeth Elliot-
So I turned to one person in my life that I don't often see, but love like family. My prayer warrior. Mrs. Linda Miller is one of the best things that ever happened to me, and here was her advice.
Be still. God's not calling you to run a race He hasn't asked you to run yet. Serve Him to the best of your ability doing what you do each and every day, but don't force His hand. He will bring about His Will for you in due time.
And that, readers, is the most important lesson of my life so far.
Here's to a New Year!
What are some of your goals that you're willing to share? Do you have any stories of things that you learned in 2018? Leave them in the comments! I'd love to hear from you!
