And it really is "all yellow"...

Yellow….proetry?

The first thing twas created, by the breath of God above,

Before He made all other things and covered it with love.

A sign of life and newness, of growth and all that’s light

Of hope and regeneration, walking in all that’s bright.

I sat down this morning to write something about the color yellow. The same words kept coming back…daffodils first. The flower has always been special, and a symbol of putting off winter’s gray and welcoming the hope of warmer seasons ahead.

The ground gives way to first green shoots,

Announcing the breath and warmth of springs arrival

In winter’s wake, the yellow bobbing heads

Signify the earth’s waking, a soul’s revival.

There’s also the metaphor of how the sun peaks through the late afternoon and early evening clouds after a summer thunderstorm and lights the last remaining humid drops in the summer air; little drops of gold reflecting the harsh yellow rays.

Flecks of gold dust, tango in time

As the sun forces its hopeful rays

Through misty curtains of evening air

A finale at end of day…

Perhaps one of my favorites of all is the symbol of new life, and what it has always meant as a child to see a sweet baby chick. The newness, the freshness, the innocence…yellow. The color of innocence. It is the color of a smile and of hope. New life was never not a metaphor for a human experiencing Christ in His fullness for the first time…at least for me.

The first sweet breath of air with opened eyes

An exhale, a movement, a first sweet sound

A small sweet face peeking through a veil

To blink, adjust, then look around.

Tis the same with the breath of a human soul

Long slumbering within its walls

Touched by the sweet sunlight of a Savior

The tender voice of the Shepherd’s call.

And then I thought about the sun….which as anyone who took astronomy knows, isn’t yellow. So now you might be thinking…she’s making up metaphors that don’t make sense. Give me a minute, because I promise, it might….

The sun is a powerful thing. It is red, orange, fiery and angry. We aren’t any closer because we’d roast (even though I think this week we inched a might closer.) and not any further because we might freeze. To recognize that fact alone is a testament to an incredible design for nature!

If you fly high enough above the clouds, you begin to see a soft blue layer below you and the sky begins to appear white…the sun is the whitest and fiercest of all in this layer of our atmosphere. Its brightness is blinding, not even beautiful. We have to look away from it. But yet, in its fierceness, it reminded me of the God who loves us.

So fiercely magnificent we cannot look upon Him without perishing on this side of heaven; yet it is by His light and wisdom we see everything else. If we see Him through the lens of His word, we understand His beauty and the precious wonder it will be to look upon Him in His fullness one day.

The layer of our atmosphere that appears blue filters the white and magnificent light so that it reflects off color waves of all shapes and patterns to illuminate this beautiful world. The science is absolutely astounding!

So you understand the metaphor. Yellow is not simply a color… It reminds me of how God gives us a glimpse of His majesty. Just as we experience the sun through the filter of an atmosphere designed to disperse the harsh light to illuminate our world, so we experience God through the filter of a beautiful 66 chapter book written to disperse His overwhelming magnificence into the shadows of our once very lonely souls.

Yellow. A color for salvation. It is our Savior we see after a storm. It is the first emotion we feel in the moment of Salvation and new life. It is the first thing we feel after He enters in and begins to grow our character just as a daffodil is the first to poke its head through winter’s gray and dormant blanket.

Yellow is beautiful.

Isaiah 60:1, John 8:12, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Lamentations 3:22-23

He calls us to arise in Him,

As the beautiful light has come

The glory of His wondrous work

Has risen and upon us shone….

The light of the world calls us forth

And follow His path; we do.

For the old has passed away and thus

We follow in hope anew.

His love and light, they never cease.

And mercies shall never be done.

Great is your faithfulness, Lord unto me

I know that the battle is won.

Happy Sunday <3
