How Great Thou Art

Jesus, I need you in the dark of my night

When I am so out of control

I've fallen so hard and I have lost sight

Of the future, a joy for my soul.

It's simply unfathomable and utterly unimaginable

That you'd reach out to someone like me, 

Your grace so clear, and steadfastly unchangeable

Given so that I can see!

Everyone says that they do not deserve love

But your holiness I don't understand.

Your power and majesty is a treasure-like trove

And your mercies the number of sands.

There's more to my life, I know this is true, 

Than simply following my own way;

Your wisdom I ask for in all that I do

Your grace in me I want to display!

I pray in your name as I face life in earnest, 

Hoping to take the right road.

Speaking in truth, and living in honesty,

Hoping that all of your seeds I have sowed.

Even as I pray, all of this in your name,

I've your answer already at heart. 

Because when in depravity, your gifts I can claim

I know just how great that Thou art!
