Now I Know
O’er and o’er again I know
Your stories ‘cause you’ve told me so
“I plowed the fields and tossed the hay”
I listened to you talk all day
We laughed ‘til late and sang some songs
Since those days the time seems long
I keep the memories alive today
So that they’ll never go away
You taught me to whistle like a bird
The prettiest sound I’d ever heard!
Enjoying nature as it sings
Appreciating the simple things.
I learned that love doesn’t come disguised
Through spoiling, gifts, and sweet demise.
You taught me what it was to know
To care because I watched you so.
The nightingale sings and trees will sway
As a child, your guitar strings played.
Songs of old and songs quite new,
Along the way, I learned a few.
Remember, Grandpa, so do I
Happy memories of days gone by
You hugged me close and watched me grow,
The depth of your love, oh now…I know.

I wrote this partly because I had not written anything in some time, and also because of my Grandfather's persistent checkups. He likes to make sure I never quit doing what I love. This one's for you, Pa. <3
So, so sweet, Maddy. Cherish the time you have with him!!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Olivia
