Thanksgiving (Southern Style)
Pardon my southern manners
That's just the way I am.
But at least for goodness' sake
I don't eat duck and ham!
Turkey is the top main dish
Never chicken, never fish!
All the sides, by southern women
Yup, this is some good, Thanksgivin' livin'!
Pass the Dressing, Green beans, rolls,
And the shakers with all those holes.
The Pie is good, there's one piece left!
(Take my word, I made it myself!)
Don't forget the chocolate torte
That's the best dessert of the sort!
Don't be afraid! Seconds are fine.
Being full is the best sign!
If you're a kid, you'll romp and play,
Sardines is the common game of the day.
Adults sit and sometimes chat,
The southern ladies know a lot about that!
Back in the day, men didn't watch the game
They'd act like kids and play the same.
If you're like my Dad, change hasn't occurred.
The southern men are true to their word.
Even by eight the party hasn't subsided
All day long the cousins have abided.
The women pull out their latest quilts
While other women look on with guilt.
Candles are lit, the sparkle and shine
The day was delicious and simply divine.
The toddlers are yawning and sounding their cries
At this, gossip breaks. And the women all sigh.
As the games all end, and mom's say "it's time to go",
Cousins all give one last hug, unpleasant faces show.
Even after family leaves, the party never ceases
Everyone is scraping away pumpkin pie and turkey greases.
I hope all you northerners
Enjoyed this little taste
Of Thanksgiving in the south
And every other place.
Georgia's home sweet home to me
Holidays come up close second
This year, with family gathered near
Only one's gone. Heaven Sent.
Make sure these three things you do
For other important reasons
Have fun, and eat good food
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Season!

Holidays won't be the same.....I love you Grandma!!!!
