Finishing Up School and A Peek Into My History
Hello Blog Readers!
I just finished most of my schoolwork yesterday and I think that this past year of school was pretty great!
I take great pleasure in studying history and science. My curriculum for history this year was America the Beautiful by the Notgrass family. It was the most enjoyable history curriculum I have ever studied. Saying that, I am going to share my favorite facts and time periods here in this post.
I guess the Revolutionary War period was one of my many favorites. Not only the war itself but the main character through all of it. George Washington..... the Father of Our Country. His immense faith and courage through it all was amazing!
Some people say the Revolutionary War was what bought our freedom. But I don't think that is so. Freedom came gradually in the years after the war........ Bit by bit, piece by piece, the puzzle called Freedom was put together.
The signing of the Declaration of Independence was a giant leap for this country. I have to say one thing I am thankful to Thomas Jefferson for doing most of the work on the Declaration of Independence, but he must have been one tired man when he was finished! :o)
The World Wars and the Great depression are my absolute favorites in history! The curriculum gave the story in so much detail; so much, that I couldn't wait 'til my other schoolwork was done every day so I could read it! I have read stories, seen photos, and watched movies on the incredible men who went across the globe to protect and save our country. Some movies I have watched don't give a true depiction of the war, so most of the time.....I prefer to read about them.
Some very true words were spoken by our former President Franklin Roosevelt below
"We are all in it- all the way. Every single man, woman, and child is a partner in the most tremendous undertaking of our American History."
I thought that was a pretty neat quote.
Many women did undertake the jobs of the men while the men were gone. They helped build the parts for tanks, airplanes, and a assortment of guns. Children collected scrap metal and rubber for their school drives. Kids also helped out in their family's victory gardens.
People rationed alot of things like sugar, butter, canned vegtables, metal, plastic, rubber, and a lot of other things I wouldn't dare count!
During the whole war Americans produced 324,000 aircraft, 88,000 tanks, 8,800 warships, 5,600 merchant ships, 2,382,000 trucks, and 79,000 landing craft, plus 15,000,000 guns, 224,000 pieces of artillery, 2,600,000 machine guns, 41,000,000,000 rounds of ammunition, and 20,800,000 helmets! That is pretty amazing! Don't you think?
The Vietnam war, the Korean War, and the Cold War were not as big of a deal as the World Wars were but they still had a place in our history.
Communism is a sad sad thing. When countries like Korea started the Communist movement America was determined that they would stop it. They could not have the whole world run on communist beliefs. During this terrible period families were separated , you never saw your friends again, and worst of all....walls were put up in certain sections of the country. (I read a book one time about this poor girl that was separated from her family because she might have had a certain sickness. She was left in one part of a country and her family was on the other side.)
America has been through a lot during the last several centuries, and even though I didn't mention the Civil War it still played a great part in keeping our country together.
I would hate to see anything else happen to this country and I belive that with enough prayer.....anything could happen.
