What is Your Why?
Wow, I haven't had a chance to really write in what feels like a REALLY long time!
For those of you who haven't read the previous post, I took a job in July as a kindergarten teacher for a local school district. I know it's an interesting turn of events for a writer as passionate about politics and freedom as yours truly.
God has a plan, and I'm just a part of His scheme. Not mine. Therefore, I find myself hugging some of the most tender and joyful humans on the planet. God knew this was part of my plan, and even though keeping up with state regulations for education (even in kindergarten) is so so hard. The smiles on their faces...you have no idea what it means to a tired heart to hear "I love you Ms. Maynor. Do you love me?"
But you know me...I love the children...they are precious. However, the political mindset pre-built in the years leading up to this job has prepared me to see the dangers to come for the next generations. Nothing, I repeat, nothing is more of a political gamble than education (hence the reason why homeschooling is very much what I want to give my children"). If you read the first third of George Orwell's "1984", you will understand exactly what I mean.
Advocating for political and educational freedom of choice is my primary goal as both a writer and a Christian. The freedoms given, now being stripped away, are based firmly on a Constitutional law written on the basis of scripture. 2/3 of all quotes by the founding fathers responsible for this document are either directly quoted or paraphrased verses of wisdom.
So when I say that Christians need to get politically active, I am not calling you to the streets to shout and hold a sign. Sometimes, you take a job in education you never thought you'd do. Maybe you volunteer for an organization that aligns with your mindset. Perhaps you pray daily for your current and future leaders. Pray, Read, Act.
I'm not the world's best activist. But I'm acting in the only way I can with what God has given me to do in the now. Showing love to a generation of children most susceptible to having their choices stripped away and are currently beginning to. I can find no greater means of action than to start in the boot camp of life and train love into the hearts and minds of children. It is only then that I will hopefully make an imprint and teach love and good choices in a culture where there is neither. I don't know what God has planned for the rest of my life, but right now, it is this.
So we, as individuals, need to act. First, we need our "why" for action. What is your "why"?
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
