Like Peanut Butter and Jelly
(Christmas is over, but I just had to share this.)
Dear Readers,
Christmas and Grandma went together like peanut butter and jelly.
The magic of Christmas was evident in Grandma whether it was Christmas or not. She was always in to giving gifts, decorating, and fixing delicious dinners! That was just who she was.
Thanks to Grandma, Christmas is now my favorite holiday. But now that she is gone, Christmas will never be AS special.
Every Christmas was the same. We would go to Grandma's house on the 24th and stay for 2 nights. On Christmas eve she set up the fondue pots and pulled out our color coded fondue forks. We would pick either chicken or beef to boil in the pot.It was always delicious!
Every Christmas eve present was fun. Grandma knew how to sew very well. So every Christmas eve we would open one present. That present was always either slippers and a bathrobe, or a cute set of pj's. She was so talented!
Every Christmas eve we would find it hard to go to sleep. Thinking of all those brightly wrapped packages under Grandma and Grandpa's tree made it tempting to go and take a peek! (of course we never did.:))
In the morning, we woke to the smell of eggs, bacon, toast, coffee cake, and a variety of breakfast foods. It was always fun trying to pick from different things Grandma made, but we were always quite full afterwards!
Ah! Then the March to the Christmas tree!(or should I say run!:) The Grandchildren that had come to spend Christmas at their Grandparent's house would gather around the tree.Grandma would always sit in her rocking chair and nominate herself to distribute the presents. We liked it that way.
It may sound weird when I say this, but I believe that Grandma's spirit of Christmas stayed with us when she passed away.
We will need Grandma's Christmas spirit to make things the same as they were before.
But Christmas will NEVER be the same without...
Grandma.
